Did you know that Samichlauslives in a little house surrounded by trees in a beautiful forest in the middle of the city of Zurich?
After several attempts in previous years, we finally managed to take our son and a friend of his to visit Samichlaus directly at his house. He had already visited our house, the creche, the kindergarten, but I thought visiting with him at his Waldshüsli would be a great adventure. And a great adventure it was!
We met up with our adventure companions at the main station in Zurich and took a crowded ride towards the forest from there.
When we got off at our stop, we were initially a little lost until we found a beautiful bridge to take us to the beginning of our journey. We followed a path full of trees of the most varied orange tones and leaves on the ground(thesnow season had not yet begun, which probably would have made the journey even more beautiful).
The walk lasts not longer than 20 minutes before you see the crowd of children playing in front of a house. Oh my, I thought to myself, we found the place!
There, in the middle of the forest, was the little house of Samichlaus, and next to it stood his faithful companion Schmutzli. And, not to be forgotten, his donkeys Benjamin and Trampeli were around as well.
After standing in a fairly long line, we were finally invited to enter and visit the lovely house. We gathered around the table where the magical moment began not only for the children but also for this mother.
We listened to stories and children were invited to tell their wishes. It was at this time that I saw them timidly reciting poems and singing songs for the good Samichlaus. Without a doubt, the beliefs, faith, and the holiday magic this time of year brings is truly unique.
We got some peanuts from Schmutzli(yes,
Yes, he believes that there is a good old man with a white beard who spreads the good living in the forest. What made me happy after all and what the purpose of this whole adventure was: That the magic of Christmas lasts for years to come in his life.
Soon after the visit to Samichlaus in Bahnhofstrasse, you can also visit him at his home. The“visitation
How get there
A tip for those arriving by public transport is to get off at the Bucheggplatz, follow the pedestrian overpass and follow the signs Zum Samichlaus. If you have a baby stroller, the best option is to go towards Denner and from there continue in the direction of the forest.
I hope you like it!
